Went Racing at Bristol.

My college roomie scored a pair of pit passes to the Saturday night race at BIR. Even though I am not a NASCAR fan I had a great time.

We arrived around 3:30pm and picked-up our passes. JD had some friends tailgating so we hung out with them a couple of hours before we went to the pits. I got to walk on the track, look in the cars, and see how short those drivers are. I even had my pic taken leaning on the Old No. 7 car in pit row. After the race started we went to the grandstands to get a better view. Pretty cool.

While JD was here he sampled some homebrew. He's a Bud Light drinker so the stuff I have in stock is a little heavy for his palette. He did like Old Grass Cutter (B39) but that is a lighter brew.

Next year I'll have a keg of AM Light (B20) ready for him next year.

US Women vs North Korea 9.11.07

It’s the 85^th minute in the US/North Korea match. I can’t believe how bad we look.

I don’t understand why we insist on playing a 4-3-3. PRK has run of the midfield and an obvious advantage in time of position. We can’t hold the midfield with 3! Shannon Box looks overwhelmed.

We also look tired. Our women’s legs look heavy and play is sluggish. We are off balance and are banging the ball rather than controlling it. There has been quite a few passes into space … with nobody home.

Lilly needs to quit trying to take on 3 defenders. Of course she has done that her entire career but now she is 36 and doesn’t have the wheels she once did.

The pitch is wet. Why did it take a full half before we started taking shots from distance? PRK seemed to grasp this concept early on. On a wet field, with a wet ball, and wet goalkeeper gloves anything can happen. Example: North Korea’s first goal.

I also do not understand why the commentators (Foudy and Dellacamera) continue to be amazed at North Korea’s “confidence” against our women. This is the World Cup. Why would you expect the PRK side (or any side) to roll over and play dead? Of course they are going to give it their all.

The match is over. North Korea out played the US and we are lucky to get out of this with a tie.

USA vs Brazil - 9.9.07

I thought we looked better than we have in quite a while. We had nice play through the center of the field and I thought Dempsy played well up front.

I do believe we need to get better service from the wings. I’ve seen better crosses from a group of 10 year olds. Beasley needs to realize that he has speed not power and stop trying to launch from 30 -35 yards out. At least I hope those were shots because if he was trying to serve the ball to Wolf … ewww. Donovan can strike the ball from that distance but his crosses were also bad. Drive it or float it, don’t deliver something in between.

I don’t understand why we are not making at least one backside run on corners. We are pretty much bunched up at the top of the box making front and back post runs. I understand we are trying to drive the ball but there is not anyone on the back side to put the ball back into the box when the field is switched.

Overall a good performance for the US, with an own goal and a missed penalty call we deserved a draw.
