Quick update. Put this one in the fridge today. This batch is promising.

Stinky Daddy's Ho Wine (B33)

I know I am going to get flack over the name. Oh well.. "Stinky Daddy's Ho Wine ... works every time". I'm cracking myself up here!!

Mr. Beer uses a product called Booster to increase alcohol content and add body in their beer kits. Booster is basically maltose, fermentable sugar. It does add alcohol content but not flavor. For that reason I never use it so I have about 8 packs laying around.

Apparently I'm not the only one because it became a topic over at the Mr. Beer Fans board. What to do with your extra booster? I had the idea to ferment it. After it is done mix it with Kool-Aid. It should come out like a malt cooler. You know, Zima... White Mountain ... etc.

One pack of booster contributes 1.4% ABV to a 2 gallon batch. That would give it a potential gravity of 1.0295. I used 4 packs in this batch so I should end up with an ABV around 5.5%. OG was 1.062.

Now I need to decide which Kool-Aid to use....

Chocolate Rush (B28) is in the Bottle

This brew stayed in the fermenter for 19 days. It is a version of Rocky River Brewing Company's "Chocolate Jitters" using Mr. Beer extracts. It tastes good but is going to need some conditioning time. I may ask my wife to hide it from me for a couple of months.

I batch primed using 1.8 oz. of corn sugar boiled in 1cp of spring water. I did not add coffee as the recipe calls.

The OG was 1.052. The FG was 1.024. ABV is 3.65%. I have the wrong ABV on the label ... oops..

SD's Honey Blonde (B31)

I had a can of Mr. Beer's West Coast Pale Ale extract on the shelf. I added 1lb of extra light DME, 1lb of honey (2mins), .25lb of lactose, .3 oz of Liberty hops (15min), and .2oz Liberty hops (2mins). Before all those additions I steeped .5lbs of 2-row and .5lbs of Honey Malt. It was a 15 minute boil. I did not boil the WCPA.

Brewed it up, cooled it down, and pitched Muntons yeast.

This was the first batch with one of my 3.5 gallon fermenting buckets. I think I am going to like this set-up better then the MB keg. It uses and air lock and has easier access than the mouth of the MB keg.

The OG was 1.062.

I did not mention ... this beer tastes very good.

Chocolate Rush (B28) Update

This batch has been in the fermenter 8 days. It was time to add the vanilla bean. 

When this batch was brewed I used a can of extract that was 9-10 months past its "freshness" date. I was concerned that it would turn bad. Well, I opened the fermenter and look what I saw. I added the vanilla anyway and closed it back up.

I have tasted it a couple of times. It does not taste great but it certainly isn't awful. It has a very green and kind of "grainy" taste. We'll see what happens. 

Tatum's Tail Pale Ale PM (B24-3) in the Bottle

Put this baby in the bottle today. It tasted green. It is my first partial mash so maybe that is what I am tasting. It was in the conical for 21 days.

OG was 1.050 and the FG was 1.008 making it 5.5%

Primed in the V with 4oz of corn sugar. I used the V's bottling attachment. Unfortunately I had a leaky bottling wand .....

Chocolate Rush (stout) B28

I cooked this one up pretty much by my recipe.

I used .6oz of Ghiradelli 60% Caco Dark Chocolate because that's what I had...

OG was on target @ 1.052. It probably would have been dead on but I was about .25QT short on the water. I did not top it up. I was happy with that because I "eyeballed" my boil volume.

Still love the wort chiller. Pitched at 75F in 10-15 minutes.

Split 1/4 of a vanilla bean and put it in a plastic bag with just enough vodka to cover it. Looked like about a tsp of vodka. I will add this to the fermenter in 5-7 days.

I am a little concerned with the old extract. The test jar had an odd taste. We'll see.

Can you see the "face in the wort"? Am I hallucinating?

Mr. Beer Chocolate Rush

This is a recipe I'm working on as a Chocolate Jitters Clone (Rocky River Brewing Co.) using only Mr. Beer extracts and specialty grain. 

The 5 gallon clone recipe came from BYO magazine. I liked the way it looked so I decided to make a run at it.

Pilothouse Lager (B23) in the Keg

My first lager was kegged tonight. Primary 10 days and secondary 31 days.  It is VERY clear and has a nice (I think) color.

I have an FG of 1.011. That would make it 3.6% ABV. It may need a little more time. That's the good thing about the keg, nothing to explode if the beer is not quite finished.

I'll force carbonate it in a week or so.
